A few years ago, I went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to a remote "rancho" on the Yucatan peninsula to study batik with a Mayan artist. During the course of the week, we had several conversations (in a hilarious mix of Spanish and English) about many things--our lives, our hopes, our dreams and what connects us all. We kept coming back to that fact that while we all are so diverse, we're all here together on this earth--under the same sun ( "el mismo sol" in Spanish)--so we'd better take care of it.
When it came time to name my business, "El Mismo Sol" just had to be it!
A self-taught artist and do-it-yourselfer, I enjoy working in many mediums including wood, stained glass mosaic and a variety of fabrics. I love to build stuff myself. Using "previously loved" materials in the pieces I create just makes sense to me and makes me happy. So, yes, I'm one of those people slowing down for a garage sale or stopping to see what you just put out on your curb!
I get so much inspiration from my wonderful, creative friends, "the big lake"(Superior) and my beloved north woods of Minnesota. When not creating art, I can (or can't) be found on the water or in the woods. My latest passion: dragon boat racing!!!!!
